My Life as a Twenty Something College Student

In today's world college students run off of endless cups of coffee and daily email reminders that our debt is just piling up. However college is not for someone to be constantly reminded of their student debt, it is about balancing life. Learning how to be able to have fun, but also complete college successfully.

I for one try to balance college and life as the best I can. However I cannot just attend college, I also have to work in order to continue to be able to attend college and to have a degree to my name. In today's world, it isn't out of the ordinary to find college students working one or more jobs and more than 28 hours, that's life. That's my life.

So when one takes away the endless reminders of our debt piling up and working, that leaves us with just college. Depending on the college that one attends can be a completely different experience, depending on if one attends a small rural college or a college in a city.

Apart from attending classes and drinking endless cups of coffee to stay awake and study for exams, life at college if full of excitement and one of the great parts is meeting new friends.

College courses and the workload that comes with them definitely keeps me on my toes and keeps me running on top of work, but where else would I be. I cannot imagine my life any different than what it is right now. I cannot imagine not attending classes, not drinking cups of coffee, not meeting new people, or hanging with friends, or not working. That is my twenty something college life.

  1. Sierra,
I love it. You spoke truth in every single word. I also try to balance life and college. It takes skill to balance work, homework, friends, family, and fun. Since becoming a freshman at SMSU (now a junior/senior) I have never worked less than 40 hours a week. As time goes on... I have noticed that I put work and school first, which is great, but when it comes to my family and friends they truly deserve my priority. I recently quit my job just to find my place. It was like I was lost in life even though I had a wonderful job, money, and great grades. Family and friends truly do touch and fill a very special place in one's heart. It took me three years of over 40 hours a week, A grades, coffee, and sleep to recognize this. I did quit my job for a month and went on two vacations and attended my military training camp. It was a well need breathe from my routine and really helped me mend fences with family and friends I had neglected. I did however go back to work (need money for gas to see those family and friends and stay on top of coffee spending and book buying :). I excepted a manager position and now have set days off and really planned my schedule to allow me to make accommodations and room for important things in my life <3 Everyone needs an eye opener and college really helped me. Kudos to you on balancing it and I wish you the absolute best!
